Do you have a background in training, either in curriculum design or providing classroom instruction? Do you have experience in planning, project management, and operations? Then an opportunity within the Ohio Military Reserve may exist for you as an Operations Support Specialist.

Higher ranking Operations Support Specialists will assist the Operations Officer in the preparation and delivery of training, implementation of operations activities including exercise design and management, plan development, orders development and ensuring OHMR alignment with Ohio National Guard processes, along with other staff responsibilities, and may supervise, mentor, and coach members of the S-3 Section staff. This position requires critical thinking, attention to detail, and excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills. Depending upon the specific role assigned, the Operations Support Specialist may be an enlisted member, or a warrant officer or commissioned officer.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting the Operations Officer in the following areas pertaining to training:

o Developing and conducting training within the command.

o Preparing training guidance for the commander’s approval.

o Identifying training requirements, based on the unit mission essential task list and training status.

o Determining requirements for and allocation of training resources.

o Organizing and conducting internal schools.

o Preparing the Brigade one and three year training schedules, or the Battalion 30-60-90 day training schedule, as assigned.

o Conducting training inspections, tests, and evaluations.

o Maintaining the unit readiness status of each unit in the command.

o Compiling training records and reports.

• The Operations Support Specialist will assist the Operations Officer in the following areas pertaining to Plans and Operations:

o Coordination with representatives of other staff sections during planning and operations, including coordinating staff, special staff, and the commander’s personal staff, at different levels, as required.

o Coordination, authentication, review, publication, and distribution of written operation orders and plans, and products involving contributions from other staff sections.

o Integration of information collected during plans and operations into the concept of operations and manage the information collection effort through integrated staff processes and procedures.

o Participation in course of action and decision support template development.

o Task organizations and assignment of missions to subordinate elements.

o Planning of troop movements, including route selection, priority of movement, timing, security, bivouacking, quartering, staging, and preparing movement orders.

This is a great opportunity for individuals who have prior military service, particularly in the areas of operations and training. However, prior service is not required, just a desire to learn from a group of very talented and highly trained soldiers and leaders.
